Weekly Update 5/2/14

Hello Families!

We had such a great day yesterday at Islands of Adventure!!!  I will cherish the memories of the smiles on everyone's faces for years to come!  A huge thank you to all the chaperones!  That kind of trip is not possible without the help of so many parents!  I can't believe I didn't take any pictures!  How did that happen???  I ALWAYS take pictures!

Today, was a pretty fun day too!  We had 11 warriors!  They were sure sleepy this morning, but hopefully had a fun day!

Tomorrow is our Spring Festival from 10:00-2:00!  Please be sure to stop by Springwood for lot of fun in the (actual) sun!!!  Another huge thank you to our volunteers tomorrow!

Scooper Night at Bruster's Ice Cream will be Monday!

Thursday, May 8th is Take Your Son/Daughter to Work Day!  I know many kids look forward to this every year!

I will be out of the classroom on Monday and Friday due to curriculum meetings.  Contact Ms. Blake or the office if you need anything.  I will still have access to email most of those days.

Have a GREAT weekend!

FCAT continues...

Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to send a quick reminder that 5th Grade still has FCAT on Monday and Tuesday!  We will be taking the math portion of the FCAT on the computers.  I did some last minute review with both classes today and they did a fantastic job!  They were actually solving the problems how I taught them, showing their work, checking over answers, etc!  They were all a math teacher's dream come true today!  I am so hopeful they will do the same on Monday and Tuesday!

Have a great weekend!

Universal Studios Info

Hello!!!

Here are a few important highlights from our meeting with the students this morning about Universal Studios.

Please take a minute to read them carefully and ask any questions you may have!  :-)

*We will hand out our 5th Grade T-shirts on Tuesday.  These MUST be worn on the Universal trip.
*We suggest giving your child a baggie of quarters for locker rental at the park.  They will probably want to store their stuff (bags, lunch, dinner, etc.) while riding roller coasters.
*It is ok for the children to wear board shorts (they must still meet the dress code length).
*Packing 1-2 small bags is recommended.  One bag of electronics, snacks, dinner, etc. can be left on the bus during the day.  The other bag with a lunch, water, change of clothes, towel etc. can be brought into the park.  This is why we suggest bringing quarters!
*Bottled water is the ONLY beverage that may be consumed ON the bus.  Gatorade, etc. can be packed for consumption at the park, but it may not be opened while on the bus.
*Your child may purchase or bring from home lunch and dinner.  Please discuss your child's budget with them so they know what they can spend, etc.
*We will mention this a thousand times in the next week, but our meeting spot for any type of emergency is the Confisco Grill at the Port of Entry.  Please quiz your kids on this information!  :-)
*The students must arrive at Springwood at 4:30am and be picked up at 10:00pm.  We will not wait on any children who arrive late in the morning.
*Please ask any and all questions that cross your mind!

IMPORTANT:  If someone else (besides a parent or guardian) is going to pick your child up when we arrive back at school I MUST BE NOTIFIED IN WRITING BEFORE THURSDAY, MAY 1st.  I will not allow anyone to take your child home unless I have been notified.  Please see my next point...

***Per Leon County Schools policy, if you have not arrived at school 30 minutes after the bus has returned, we are required to call the Leon County Sheriffs Office to transport your child.  We are not allowed to transport students in our cars.  This leads me to…

If you have not already joined my Remind 101 text messaging group, I STRONGLY encourage you to do so today!

Weekly Update 4/11/14

Good Morning!

I certainly saw some improvement with our math study skills and focus this week!  I really appreciate all the email responses to last week's update and all of your support at home!

On a side note, we are noticing a pretty rapid increase in behavioral issues among many, many 5th graders.  It happens every year about this time.  We certainly need all the help we can get with encouraging positive, rule-following behavior.  It is NOT too late for someone's Universal Studios field trip to be taken away.

FCAT starts in a week…April 21st.
Our schedule:
Monday 4/21--Reading
Tuesday 4/22--Reading
Wednesday 4/23--Science
Thursday 4/23--Science
Monday 4/28--Math (computer based test)
Tuesday 4/29--Math (computer based test)

Don't forget that we are scheduled to go to Universal Studios on Thursday, May 1st!!!  All FCAT testing and any make-ups due to absences or tardies will have to complete before departure.

More Universal Studios information will be coming home soon!  We will give specific departure times, what to bring, etc.

Have a great weekend!!

Weekly Update 3/28/14

Hi Everyone!

We did it!  We finally spelled the word H-O-M-E-W-O-R-K by earning one letter each time the entire class turned in their homework!  I will be planning a celebration for the class next week!

We had a blast at Field Day!  I will post some pictures to our class blog today!

A few updates…

We will be taking a field trip on May 22…in order for your child to attend they MUST meet their 4th nine weeks AR (reading) goal and of, course, maintain acceptable behavior.

Report cards are coming home on Wednesday!

If you would like to place a Love Ad in the back of this year's yearbook, the deadline to order is TUESDAY!  A new order form is coming home this afternoon.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!
